My Career, My Choice – A Step Towards Clarity in Career Building

The Career Development Cell (Samarth Bharat), under the Innovation and Incubation Cell (Udhmodya Foundation) of Mata Sundri College for Women, organised an insightful workshop on “My Career, My Choice” on 17th September 2025 at Bebe Nanki Hall. The session was graced by the guest speaker Mr. Shonal Gupta, Convenor – Samarth Bharat, and witnessed the participation of over 80+ enthusiastic students from across courses and years.

The workshop began with an interactive activity, where students were invited to share their career status through two engaging boards – “Career Wall” and “Still Exploring.” On colourful bookmarks, they noted whether they had already decided on their career paths or were still exploring, and placed them on the respective charts. This activity not only broke the ice but also set the tone for a reflective and thought-provoking session.

Mr. Gupta highlighted how career decisions are influenced by multiple factors – environmental (family, economy), individual (skills, influence, guidance), social (norms, inequalities), and government-related (policies, infrastructure gaps). He emphasised the importance of starting early, making conscious efforts towards one’s aspirations, and surrounding oneself with mentors and peers who encourage growth rather than misguide.

He also discussed challenges like regional disparities, lack of guidance, misinformation on social media, limited exposure, and distractions that hinder career advancement. Students were encouraged to ask themselves meaningful questions such as:

  • What are my strengths and passions?
  • What do I enjoy doing in my free time?
  • What does success mean to me – only money or also satisfaction and balance?
  • Have I explored all my options?
  • What are the long-term prospects of my chosen field?

Practical solutions like internships, skill development, mapping personal strengths, and eliminating weaker career options were suggested as ways to bring clarity. Mr. Gupta also shed light on the Samarth Bharat initiatives offering training in technology, AI, Excel, Python, startups, and skill-based courses – equipping students for real-world opportunities.

The session ended with a strong message – start today, take ownership of your choices, and build the future you aspire to.
